This is a colour version of the cartoon featured in the Wellington Times this week. The initial concept came from a group of concerned citizens, and I was more than happy to develop the cartoon for them.

Take a minute and visit the blandings turtle site. The attempt to save our environment by destroying it’s inhabitants is more than ironic, it’s moronic.

I find it interesting that people who don’t want industrial wind complexes in Important Bird Areas or other endangered habitats would be labelled as N.I.M.B.Y’s. I live relatively close to Ostrander Point, maybe 10-15 km, but it’s far enough away that turbines there shouldn’t have a negative affect on my daily life. So do I think that it’s a suitable place for giant turbines? Uh, no. If we need to fix a human-made energy crisis, (and let’s face it, we do) then we need to fix it without further affecting the world around us. Why should endangered birds have to live with our stupid fixes?

This is going to be an interesting couple of years, hopefully all the changes in the political landscape don’t sink us.

I should have some kind of prize for someone who can come up with a better sign than “(Conservative) Icebergs dead ahead”. Let’s see what I have lying around here for prizes, some colourful lint, 3 leftover licorice allsorts, a shiny mason jar lid…
