Hooked by Hollywood

I love being given the opportunity to create an illustration from the ground up. From initial concept to rough design to the final artwork, the whole process gives me a charge. Scout Design gives me those kind of opportunities now and then, and in this case it was for a social media project they are involved in. Hooked by Hollywood deals with the sometimes subversive role that movies can play in youth becoming addicted to smoking. Movies stars and the characters they play can be incredibly influential to young fans, so it’s not a stretch to say that seeing these role models smoking could play a large part in a persons decision making process.

The illustrations I created here focus on that issue. The concept was to draw a parallel to the problem by showing kids being affected by smoking in the movies while they are essentially minding their own business.

Moving forward I’ll be updating the New Releases tab on the Hooked by Hollywood Facebook page with information on which movies are hot, and which are simply smoking. Watch for it!

Movember. Decisions, decisions…

Maybe you can help me. I have decided to join Movember this year. For those of you who don’t know, Movember is a charity that asks men to grow a mustache, and then use that burgeoning power to collect donations for prostate cancer research. My own Movember page can be found here, but wait. My issue is that I can’t decide what kind of mustache to grow. This is where you come in. I’ve put together 4 illustrations of potential stache styles. Take a look at each one, and then comment on which you like best. I will compile these results, and which ever one is most popular will be the one I go with. OK? Here we go.

mustache02

I call this one rural sophistication. This one will take the most amount of daily care, and likely the most amount of stares at the grocery store. The illustration is an unaltered watercolor.

mustache03

This one is the biker. Of course, I’ll be riding a little 77 Honda rather than a great big Harley, BUT- my insurance is way cheaper. The illustration is a ball point pen drawing with digital coloring.

mustache04

This one is just cheese. Hence the yellow background. Cheeeeesy. The illustration is a pencil sketch with digital coloring.

mustache05

This one is the Depp. I call it the Depp, because I stole Johnny Depp’s hair in order to make it. I’m sure he won’t mind, he looks good with a hat on anyways. The illustration is comprised of digitally altered photographs.

Well there you have it. Leave a comment below on which you like best, and check back Nov 1 to see which one was most popular. Also, please consider donating to the Movember cause, men everywhere will thank you.

Valery Philip Naturally Living

I simply loved doing these illustrations for Valery Philip. These images will appear on t-shirts and other promotional material for her ‘real food’ campaign. Super fun!

Frankford Map

I made this map for Frankford Ontario, based on a similar style to the Quinte West map from the last post. It is designed as a large outdoor map, and once I have time to venture up there, I might even get an actual photo of the installation to post here!

Quinte West Maps

Here is a map I made for tourist and promotional materials. I worked with J B Printing in Trenton, who were fantastic. It was a nice challenge to make a warm and inviting map without making it too loose or cartoony. Each logo and image (including the map itself) was drawn by hand to produce a softer feel.

Quickly, to the Art Camp Van!

We are always looking for better ways to advertise, and these illustrations I did for our van have received a fair amount of attention. We have to be sure to always have flyers in the van to hand out to curious parents of aspiring artists!

The blank spaces that the kids are holding up will eventually display artwork from Art Camp attendees. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Happy Birthday Vicki!

Happy Birthday Vicki!

I don’t normally sit around the house drawing my neighbors in the buff, but for Vicki, (of Vicki’s Veggies) I’ll make an exception.

Christmas and Birthday Cards

Here are a few images I have made for birthday and Christmas cards.

Exploration Playgrounds Designs

Exploration Playgrounds contacted me to design a few things for them, including their logo and cards, illustrations and a brochure.
Above is the front and back of the cards, including their new logo.
Below is the outside front and back, and the inside of the brochure showing a few of their products.
Here is a quick illustration to show the concept of a ‘dinosaur sand box dig site”
They also needed a 3′ X 4′ plaque designed to go with the dig site.
